Hello everyone! It really has been a super long time since I wrote to you all, but I’ve been preparing for a new life in Ocean Grove! I took some photos today to share a little sneak peek of the exterior of the house, designed by Studio A2 Architects.

I think when I’ve always thought about living by the sea, it’s always been in a weatherboard house with a tin roof. The sound of pelting rain thundering down is super special don’t you think?

A large part of the west-facing part of the roof is adorned with solar panels (twenty of them to be precise!), which I’m kind of excited about! If anyone has any tips for living in a solar house drop me a line below, I would love to know.

The garden has some sparse planting already, but Mum has some fabulous plans for moving some of the plants and for creating a more co-ordinated look. I’ll keep you updated with her garden plans, as we move in and get a feel for living here.

Peeking through the gorgeous big leaves of a ‘Silver Princess’ Gum Tree is back of the house and the decking area… Can you see me on the back there, gin in hand? I think I can!
View from the deck leading out on to the garden… aka Mum’s blank canvas.

We’ll be moving from a home that has two huge Liquid Amber trees in the front yard, that provide shade and privacy from the rest of the world, so the starkness of a garden from scratch will take some getting used to I think.

The deck is a really fabulous size, made for summer entertaining and brisk winter breakfast (only if you’re game enough, of course). Spring is nearly upon us, so I think I might get cracking on searching for outdoor sofas and what not before summer catches us out!

The house is incredibly private even though it is a corner block. A fence wraps around the whole boundary, which will become quite a sanctuary after greenery and time make it fade into the background.

Another mini decking area near the front door… including a tape measure that I totally forgot to remove from the shot, well done me!

The Room With the Little Window

What is it that I’m most excited about? Well, it is this room at the front of the house with this gorgeous little window. It’s going to be my studio, and guess what, it’s north-facing! There is a huge wide window that faces to the north (see below) and I can’t wait to be working in a space adorned with beautiful natural light. I have quite a few plans for this room, so I’ll be doing a blog post series on putting together the studio and storage ideas, and making use of a room with a small footprint.

The big window to what will be my beautiful sunlit studio

There is still a month or so until the move, but going down there today I felt so relaxed. It’s going to be hard to imagine the heart of our family in a completely different home. I’ve only ever known my parents in the one house. But I know it’s good for them, and it’s really good for me.

Stay tuned for house updates and studio styling in the coming months!
